Free to attend

- [SEATS]
Twelve, including the two of us
One table. When the seats are gone, they are gone.
- [BRING]
One number and one question
The number you are working towards, and the one thing in the way of it.
Add it to your calendar · Bali time, UTC plus 8
You are an average of your circle
Alone, nobody asks you the plain questions. What is the number? How many clients is that, at what price? Why is every proposal different? You can carry a bad plan for a year that way. Put twelve founders at one table and someone asks in the first ten minutes.
Both of us paid a lot of money for a room like this. The strategy we learned in it was the strategy we already knew. What changed was who was asking. This dinner is that room, for the price of your own meal.
Three hours, in order
Times are Bali time. Dinner is ordered from the menu; the table is ours for the evening.
- [6:45]
Arrive
Find the table, say hello, order something.
- [7:15]
One round
Each founder says what they run, the number they are working towards, and the one thing in the way. Two minutes each.
- [8:00]
Hot seats
Three founders get the table for ten minutes each. One problem, eleven people who have had it.
- [9:00]
Dinner proper
The conversation goes where it goes.
- [10:00]
Done
Numbers swapped. One introduction each, made before you leave.
This is for you if
- You run a creative business in Bali this week: an agency, a studio, or a freelance practice that is becoming one. Video, design, web, photo, brand, marketing.
- You have a number you are working towards and you can say it out loud.
- You would rather be asked a hard question over dinner than read another thread about it.
Not for you if
- You are coming to sell something to the table. Nothing is sold at this dinner, by anyone, including us.
- You want a lecture. There is no stage and no slides. There is a table.

Still in the work
Corey has spent seventeen years in brand strategy, launched his first agency in 2009, and runs Branded By Corey from Bali. Joshua is a filmmaker who runs Compound, a photography and film studio in the UK, and has mentored creative founders for the last three years. Together they founded Club Locked In, an advisory for creative agencies.
Both still run their own studios this month. That is the only qualification for the seat at the head of the table.
Before you take a seat
Do I have to run an agency?
No. A studio, a freelance practice, a two-person shop. If you sell creative work and you have a number you are working towards, the seat is yours.
What does it cost?
Nothing to attend. You order your own food and drinks from the menu and pay for them. There is no ticket, no deposit and no upsell at the table.
Where exactly is it?
Seseh, on the coast west of Canggu. The venue is sent by WhatsApp on Saturday evening, 24 hours before, to the number you leave. Parking and a pin come with it.
Can I bring my business partner?
Yes, if they run the business with you. Save a seat each so the count stays honest. Partners, spouses and friends who are not in the business, not this time.
What if I save a seat and cannot come?
Reply to the WhatsApp and say so. Twelve seats means someone else wants yours.
Is there a talk?
No stage, no slides. One round of introductions, three hot seats, then dinner. The two of us ask questions and eat like everyone else.
Twelve seats. Take one.
Leave a WhatsApp number and the address arrives on Saturday evening, with one reminder on Sunday afternoon. That is all the number is used for.
